Lab Manager – Baker Hughes

Baker Hughes’ Dhahran Research and Technology Centre opened in November 2011 with the official opening took place at the end of February 2012. The intention is for the facility to be operating at full capacity in 2013.

The facility is unique in Dhahran Techno Valley in that it is wholly dedicated to research and technology. Twelve people are already onboard and this number is set to double by the end of 2012. Staffing to 50 people is planned by the end of 2013.

The facility has capability for all Baker Hughes Business Segments and will comprise a 2,500 m2 Laboratory and Workshop with a:
· Rock, Materials, and Fluids Laboratory
· H2S and CO2 Corrosion Laboratories
· Prototype Machine Shop and Electronics
and 2,400 m2 of Office Space with 80 offices and workstations as well as dedicated space for customers and students.

These Laboratories are being fully equipped with state of the art testing equipment with their operational capabilities being:

Key Areas of Responsibility and Involvement
· Manage the Dhahran Research and Technology Center (DRTC) facility and projects, encompassing management of the operations and responsibility for project plans with its own budget, and ensure successful execution, thereby supporting enhancements to ongoing operations in Saudi Arabia and focusing regional support for Saudi Aramco

· Supervise a team of Project Scientists/Engineers and Technicians with multi-disciplinary backgrounds, with concentration on advancing reservoir access and production optimization.
· Interface regularly with Saudi Aramco and local universities to identify and implement directed, funded and collaborative development efforts while maintaining an interface with other Baker Hughes Inc (BHI) division technical focal points, both locally and globally, to communicate technical needs within Saudi Arabia as well as to identify opportunities for innovation and technology transfer with customers and universities

· Subsequent to start up activities, assist with planning and managing Rock Fluids Materials Laboratory capabilities and resources to support BHI business and operations goals with Saudi Aramco and the Universities

· Lead technical discussions with significant impact on product design, cost, performance, and manufacturing methods / standardization, customer solutions, warranty cost minimization, and patent analysis and submission

· Plan and conduct assignments; in the main these will be the larger, more complex projects or multiple/special projects

· Lead and/or direct projects, and liaise with other global R&D groups

· Formulate goals, forecast personnel requisitions, prepare budgets, and monitor project costs

· Operating as a member of the R&D team, projects undertaken are of significant size and complexity incorporating product development, multiple enhancements, product application, and influence on related product lines

· Sphere of influence will include regional operations and customers in addition to engineering groups, support organizations, vendors, and joint ventures for product development and commercialization
