Our client is an Omani privately owned rental and leasing equipment company. As a result of the oil price rising and confidence for the future, they are currently seeking a General Manager capable of running a business unit.
This is a contract role issued on a 2 year renewable contract and is based in Muscat, the capital of Oman although there will be regular travel across the Omani interior.
Reporting into the CEO you will assume focal point responsibility for all day-to day matters across all functions of this rental and leasing equipment business unit and will take control, introduce and enforce policies and procedures and build trusting relationships with major customers.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the day to day activities of managing and co-ordinating all heavy equipment (cranes, forklifts, cargo trucks etc.) and operators to Oil and Gas services companies.
You will be responsible for the P and L of the business unit and in collaboration with the CEO and Board, you will set commercial business targets (including, but not limited to increased turnover and margin targets) and identify the means to achieve the targets.
You will represent the company with clients and potential clients and will maintain close relationships with key contacts, including the existing client base, contractors to large projects and other potential sources of business with a view to being informed of their future requirements.
You will prepare annual budgets and ensure their proper implementation.
You will build, in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer pricing models to determine margins and return on proposed investments to capture business.
You will respond quickly to any customer complaints and confirm corrective actions taken.
You will ensure the efficient and optimal utilisation of the Groups resources – Human, Capital and Financial.
You will maintain stringent HSE standards and will ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and any clients health and safety policies and procedures.
You will ensure the safety of all personnel and equipment within the Company.
You will ensure that all sub – contractors comply with the Company’s health and safety procedures.
You will ensure proper cost control and maintenance of sound management information systems.
You will ensure the timely submission of reports and other important information to the Board.
You will ensure the setting of objectives and performance goals for the business and for key management personnel.
You will oversee the security of our client’s assets and maintain the assets to the highest standards possible.
You will ensure staff training and development takes place, where appropriate.
You will represent the Company at major corporate events.
You will authorise external business communications.
Finally, you will encourage and gain commitment and ownership of the operation by all and implement operational efficiencies where appropriate.
Knowledge and Skills:
You will need to be an accomplished General Manager / Commercial Manager with previous experience within the rental equipment / leasing industry, ideally with some of your experience giving exposure to business development, quality systems and procedures and budgetary control.
Ideally you will have commercial experience gained in the GCC / Middle East region and ideally exposure in the oil and gas sectors.
Your work experience must be supported by a Degree level qualification ideally in either logistics or an operational doctrine.
You must have experience of managing a business unit and you must be able to generate revenue and profits through personal involvement with clients.
You will have very strong competencies in entrepreneurial leadership, commercial astuteness and in developing and maintaining customer relationships based on service excellence.
Candidates for the position will also need to demonstrate the ability to organise and efficiently manage a logistics type operation supported by strong commercial acumen and excellent knowledge of budgets and financial planning.
You will be able to show that you fully understand the importance of the relationship between sales success and quality of service delivery.
You should be experienced in introducing procedures and as the basis for consistent management and performance especially relating to HSE matters.
Ideally you will be familiar with TQM / quality programs / ISO standards and willing to introduce quality procedures and gaining ISO certification.
You should have excellent organisational, presentational and negotiating skills and able to work closely with the Board and influence company strategy
You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language, preferably Arabic, able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner, work to tight deadlines and pay attention to the detail.
Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
You will be resourceful with a flexible outlook, have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities and be able to fit in to an international dynamic and multi-cultural environment.
Finally, you should possess a Drivers Licence and be PC literate particularly in spreadsheets. An international driving licence would be very useful.
These is an outstanding challenge for accomplished General Manager looking for something different.
The basic salary will be around £80,000 - 85,000 per annum and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition, there is a management bonus, company vehicle, 30 days’ holiday and insurances.
